Abu Dhabi’s newspaper The National ran two articles about the Understanding Islam through Virtual Worlds project: On February 10, 2009 “Call for greater online cultural dialogue,” by Roland Hughes, and a February 16, 2009 op-ed by Dr. Muhammad Ayish called, “A ‘second life’ for public diplomacy in the Middle East.”

Wagner James Au reports on February 16, 2009 in New World Notes about his observations on the findings from the Understanding Islam through Virtual Worlds project: “A fascinating clash of best intentions and actual spiritual desires, transplanted into the virtual realm.”

On February 11, 2009 Joshua s. Fouts was featured in an interview in the National Journal Online called, “Clinton State Department Looks To Boost Online Presence,” by Amy Harder.

On January 14, 2009 Rita J. King was interviewed by Time.com about the use of social networking technologies around the conflict in Gaza, “Facebook Users Go to War over Gaza.” Earlier she appeared on Press TV’s “Hearts and Minds” program to discuss the “US and the Latest Middle East Crisis“. Joshua S. Fouts appeared on BBC Radio on January 15 talking about online ethics and media technology in “Gaza, gadgets, women and tech,” and on Iranian Press TV’s “Hearts and Minds” program discussing the NIC 2025 report in “Global Trends 2025: A Transformed World.”
